Precise Answers, Informed Decisions — Caring for Life Within
In some pregnancies, especially when screening tests indicate a higher risk of fetal abnormalities, more detailed information is needed. Invasive diagnostic procedures allow specialists to collect samples directly from the womb for accurate diagnosis. These tests help parents and doctors make the best possible decisions about care and treatment.
At Dr. Sirisha Reddy’s Center for Fetal Medicine, we offer a full range of diagnostic procedures performed with the highest safety and precision standards.
Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
Early genetic testing using placental tissue
CVS is typically performed between 11–14 weeks of pregnancy. A small sample of placental tissue is collected and analyzed for chromosomal abnormalities and genetic conditions such as Down syndrome, thalassemia, and others. This early diagnosis allows for timely planning and interventions if needed.
Amniocentesis
Diagnosis of chromosomal and genetic conditions through amniotic fluid analysis
Usually done between 16–20 weeks, this test involves withdrawing a small amount of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal cells. It helps detect genetic disorders, neural tube defects, and infections with high accuracy. Amniocentesis is a commonly recommended procedure when there’s an abnormal scan or family history of genetic conditions.
Cordocentesis (Fetal Blood Sampling)
Evaluation of fetal infections, anemia, and genetic disorders
This advanced test involves collecting a small blood sample from the fetal umbilical cord. It provides vital insights into fetal anemia, infections (like parvovirus), blood group compatibility, and rare genetic disorders. It is typically reserved for specific cases requiring detailed fetal evaluation.
Invasive diagnostics may sound intimidating, but they are safe, essential tools in fetal medicine. These procedures provide clarity when it matters most — helping parents prepare, seek early treatment, or simply gain peace of mind.
